This theater is wonderful. I like the small atmosphere and the fact that they have a bar! Who doesn't like seeing great new and classic movies on a theater screen while having a drink (or two... or three...)? I went a couple years ago for their screening of Army of Darkness and it was nice to be in a theater with people as dorky as me! If you want a unique theater experience and a chance to see some older movies on a big screen again, this is definitely a place to check out! Their website posts all the upcoming screenings. Enjoy!

I've been a long time fan of Screenland and was sorry to see the old crossroads location close as well as the crown center location. I went to the new location for the first time after work today. I like the esthetics of the new place though I was a bit unsure of whether I was going into the right place as neither a sign or address is posted on the building. I bought two tickets and the girl selling the tickets struggled with figuring out how to make the transaction. Eventually she got another girl to help her....and she also had some trouble getting the computer to work. I hadn't planned on eating there but having noticed the new bar and smelling the food I thought I'd give it a try. There was a moderate number of people in the seating area and in the arcade but I was only one of two people sitting at the bar. I sat there for about ten minutes I front of a bartender making drinks waiting to be given a menu or acknowledged in some way. Eventually I noticed several employees standing around talking at the opposite end of the bar so I moved down there and found a menu and waited for about 5minutes for someone to make some recognition that I was standing there with a menu trying to place an order. I looked around and saw employees texting and talking to each other and decided id rather not stay. Hopefully, they get their service up to par, and I hope the movie experience is what I'm use to. At this moment I feel like the owner hired his teenage daughter and her college friends to run the business....hope they're having fun...and I hope this won't be a third screenland to shutter their doors

Got to check out the new Screenland last night. Great beer selection. Great food. Great service. Loved the old arcade games as well. I will gladly come back.

Instantly the best bar in Kansas City for retro junkies and craft beer nerds. Awesome movie and video game art decorate the walls, 30+ arcade machines including X-Men, NBA Jam, Street Fighter 2, and more, a full service movie theater with handsome polished wood and leather seating, amazing food, excellent beer selection with 45 or so taps, and killer cocktails with really cool nerd culture names. The space is huge and inviting, and the staff was really friendly and helpful. Excellent place to hang with a group of friends!

Movie theater with arcade center for $5 for all day play with games such as Pacman, Centipede, Topper, Frogger, Mario Bros, and a roomful more I just named a few Featuring indie films, foreign, and other non mainstream items. Check out events at screenland.com/crossroads

Thank you, Screenland, for providing a safe haven from the annoying and predictable attraction previews one must endure to simply sit through a film at most locations. You know, extreme violence and narrative by a guy with an impossibly deep resonant voice, or the requisite cartoon with a farting cartoon animal character scene for the kiddies. How many years can that be milked? Endlessly, it seems. The chairs are super comfortable, only exceeded by those at Legends (where you have to endure the previously stated), but those couches! Now there's a grand idea, and booze... What's to not like? And the movie choices, they're the best. Headed here this weekend, glad it's here, hope it never goes away.

Well, tis the season to catch up on all of the great movies that have come out over the last year, it's awards time! But ya know what else is pretty cool, just kicking back on a sofa and watching a childhood favorite. Screenland Crossroads provides one of the best venues for doing just that. This no frills theatre seems to specialize in comfort; not with leather recliners for every seat, but making their entire theatre space feel like one giant living room. I also love when theaters make it a point to show the films that made us all fall in love with the movies in the first place. So right through the front door is the front desk, ticket counter, bar, snack area. A one stop shop for candy, tickets, a beer or mixed drink, and good ole theatre popcorn. I can't say that it's cheap, but it is cheaper than most other movie houses. The staff is super laid back and quite friendly, they really set the tone for this "living room" experience I'm going with here. The space itself is actually home to quite a few different things to include and event space, but I don't really have any experience with that, just looked at it a saw some decent potential. On your trek back to the viewing area you'll go by a totally stocked, old school arcade, fresh out of the eighties I would suspect. $5 for as much play time as you like! I was never a big arcade gamer, but I could see myself getting pretty lost in there. The actual theatre is quite large, much larger than I thought it would be. The seats are big and cousiony and in the middle walk way are some davenports for those who truly like to lounge during a good movie, i.e. me! Before the show begins a large red curtain is drawn, making you feel like whatever you are about to watch is really special. Overall, this place is pretty great! It may be a bit rough around the edges, but that is what makes it even greater to me. The customer service is excellent, they will even bring you your popcorn so that it's nice and fresh. I look forward to my next movie here, which should not be too far off!

Definitely a great little theater! This was our second trip to Screenland - the first time we were there for an arts event in the spring, and it was a great venue for that sort of event. This time around we went to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show, complete with the live floor show, and we had a really fun time. The theater is clean, comfortable, and roomy. We didn't get to sit on one of the leather couches, but we were still more than happy with our regular seats, as they were very comfortable. The cup holder wasn't big enough to hold my mixed drink in its little glass, but that's no biggie. The adult beverages at the concession stand are more than reasonably priced, as were the tickets to Rocky Horror. (I usually expect theaters to be on the expensive side, so this was a nice surprise.) We purchased our tickets online ahead of time, and another awesome thing is that the ticket price was...the ticket price. No add on charges for buying online or anything like that. Hurray!! The Fishnets and Floorshows Shadow Troupe that performed along with the movie was a lot of fun, and kept the crowd going. I liked, too, that they had little prop bags for sale, and explained when to use the props for all of the virgins in the house. All in all, we had a fantastic time, and will definitely be back to Screenland.

I've been going here since they opened, short of my east coast haitus, but I'm back. Every experience has been good. I've seen all kinds of movies here, the staff is always nice, the popcorn and drinks good. They put on a special engagement world premier for an art company I'm affiliated with last spring and that engagement was so well received by all of the guests, Screenland helped give a positive view of arts in KC.

I just got a chance to checkout the new Classic arcade and it's amazing! I haven't played Tron since i was a kid! Absolutely will be back again.

Reserved Red Leather seats. As good as it gets right there. Why the hell hasn't anyone else thought to put some lazy boy chairs in theaters. I'd pay the marked up price, wouldn't you? Saw Amelie with the lady over Valentine's weekend, and it was superb. A bottle of white wine (Francis Coppola), some lovely chocolates from Christopher Elbow, and a nice serving of popcorn. All in large, an excellent first impression. I'm very glad theaters like this exist, otherwise when will you ever get the chance to catch Casablanca or some other amazing classic film on the big screen? Sorry, bed sheet projectors in the ol' backyard don't count. Well maintained, superior service and quality, and a nice reminder that you can still enjoy some amazing classic cinema on the big screen. A word of caution however. Consider giving yourself extra time to get there if you're coming from 670. The Broadway ramp can get really sluggish during Fri-Sun. With the convention center and Crowne Plaza nearby, you never know how slow and stupid some drivers will get.

Holy heck, should have made it down here years ago, but couldn't have had a better maiden voyage than seeing The Room last night. Can't wait for a second viewing with a larger cohort. Also, good call on the IPA double-wides.

The cozy venue offers a great opportunity to hear films get roasted by local comedians for the CounterClockwise Comedy troupe. I saw Twilight get the comedic roasting treatment, and it was a really fun time. Come early though so you can grab one of the hard-to-get recliners for the show!

As everybody before me has said, Screenland is such a unique addition to the Kansas City crossroads district. I love the retro feel; the huge, comfy recliners (but you have to get there early!); the fact that you can buy liquor there. The theater has much more of a laid-back, lounge feel than a movie theater you'd frequent in JoCo. The theater also rents out its back space for parties -- I would so love to have a reception there of some kind. On nights when it's not being used for parties, it's open to the public, so make sure to explore that side of the Screenland. They've added a pool table back there, for anyone to play while they wait. Also be sure to check their website for special events. Every month, on one Friday and Saturday, they partner with the CounterClockwise Comedy troupe to roast movies, Mystery Science Theater 3000-style. So far I've seen Friday the 13th and Footloose. Pretty hilarious material, and they choose a different movie each month. It's definitely a different experience -- just another reason why I love KC.

So, five stars means perfect, right? In this case, it also means quite interesting, in a venue which was once a cold storage warehouse, now converted to a 150-seat (stadium-style seating) movie theater, with space for meetings and other events. The slate of films shown here ranges from good new movies to good vintage movies. Aside from the fact that they serve wine, beer, and mixed drinks, the best thing is there are 11 upholstered recliners in the very best row and if you get there early, or even if you don't but it's a sparse attendance, you can sit in these huge comfy recliners! It's only a block west of Broadway on 17th Street, and there's parking right across the street.

It's hard for me to review Screenland because it is so awesome and I want it to do well, but I also want to keep it all to myself! There's only one row of those recliners, afterall, and I've been lucky enough to be in one almost every single time I've been there. Where else can you enjoy a couple drinks, sit back and relax, and watch a great movie up on the screen? Some of the movies I've seen there: Friday the 13th: Part 2 The Lost Boys LADY TERMINATOR They are very open to suggestions if you think there is some obscure cult movie out there that they should be showing. Just make sure to bring lots of your friends to support the Screenland!

In my next life I want to own a place like this. We were walking around during first friday and since we'd made it close to Screenland we decided to check it out. It was early enough that there wasn't anything playing yet but decided to stay for a few drinks since they had a great happy hour going on. I think it was something like $3 well drinks..$2 beer? We got our drinks and walked around checking out the place. Its a pretty large place with a pool table and hang out area in the back that seems to be a reception/party area of somesort. Fun Disney memorabilia was everywhere that told about his stay in the KC area. After that we headed outside to sit our front and enjoy our drinks. We've since gone back for movies and love the intimate vibe there along with mainstream, independent, and flasback movies that they show there. The times we were there didn't seem to be alot of people so I hope this place is able to stay around for a while. Who knows, we're new to the area so it may be a really happening place. Hope so! We plan to support it. Also, I've read that they are having a Valentines special-a viewing of Amelie, with champagne and chocolates. We'll be down in New Orleans or we would definately chose this over all the other specials going on.

If you've ever watched the Academy Awards and wondered "Where do those animated short films play?" or longed for the communal experience of doing the Time Warp with an entire audience, you should check out the Screenland. This resurrected gem near the Crossroads District offers Kansas City moviegoers some new twists on the traditional indie theater. The theater itself has some nice extras, like wine and beer at the concession stand and a row of plush red recliners - complete with cup holders and plenty of leg room - for the ultimate big-screen experience. When I checked out their web site, I found out Screenland Theatre & Events is the facility's full name. That makes sense; Screenland touts itself as the perfect place to plan a party or event. Occasionally, the theater coordinates with the Crossroads District to offer a movie tie-in with the First Friday theme of the month. Since the first Screenland opened at 16th and Washington, the people behind it have reopened two more classic movie houses in the metro - one in Kansas City, KS, and another in North Kansas City. It's promising to see a group reclaim these theaters; it would be a shame to see them razed to make room for generic new buildings with no personality and no past.

Nostalgic. Brilliant. Fun. I met my hero Bruce Campbell at Screenland, so it's hard for me to possibly give this place anything but a gleaming review. Screenland is unique for so many reasons; reasonable ticket prices, old and new movies, retro/vintage decor, special events, the list goes on. As other reviewers have mentioned, the recliner seating is spectacular if you're early enough to nab it. Yes, there is truly nothing quite like watching a movie a Screenland, kicked back in a recliner, enjoying a beer.
